Performing Arts Master Class

On Wednesday 17th January Year 5 students took part in a Performing Arts Masterclass. After we all took part in the opening drama activity led by Miss Stead it was time to be creative. The group was split between music and drama on the theme of Discovery! We then whisked off to Ancient Egypt in search of treasures, artefacts and at all times trying to avoid the dreaded curses.

The students were so focussed and it was really great to see the levels of enthusiasm and creativity. The music students created and performed a five minute piece based on the adventures of Professor Blithe and his bumbling assistant Jenkins. The band was made up of keyboards, percussion, drum kit, electric guitar and synthesiser – rehearsing to make sure the performance was faultless. At the end of the session myself and the music students watched the drama performance. Mrs Stead had shown the group the clever techniques involved in Physical Theatre and we the audience were drawn in to the perils of discovering and opening an ancient tomb. The group delivered an exciting and confident performance.

We finished by performing the music piece to the drama students which was very well performed.

It is always a privilege to deliver these sessions as it gives a fantastic insight into the emerging and existing talent in the local area. Well done to all involved and we look forward to the next time.
