Mr Keenan
September 25, 2017
On Thursday 21st September 2017, I, along with the Head Teacher, was honoured to welcome our latest members of the High Achieving Pupil Bursary group. Accompanied by proud family members, the following eight pupils received their first bursary award in the Library, along with light refreshments (the biscuits went down very well!):
Ray Bristow
George Close
Baylee Curtis
James Dyne
Morgan Kelly Newton
Amy Smith
Leigha Staples
Evie Water
When they were in Year 5, these pupils passed the equivalent of an English or Maths GCSE paper which determined their status as bursary award members. As I told the pupils, this is not an achievement to be taken lightly and they should be rightly proud of their achievements.
All the families then watched a guide to the 'Brilliant Club’ scholars programme – where bursary pupils get an automatic place and get the chance to work with PHD students on a University style research paper. I made the point that along with enrichment, students had access to great opportunities to develop their passion and interests in and out of school at this school, and that they needed to ‘write their own stories’ in relation to their futures. They can all go as far as they want, and along with our aspirations for them to hit the heights they are capable of, I underlined how many great opportunities pupils had to help them on their way.
It was a real pleasure to meet all the families and welcome them to our school community. I look forward to seeing how they progress over the next five years.
